Carl A. Hammerschlag M.D. is an internationally recognized psychiatrist, author, teacher, and healer. He has done pioneering work in the practical applications of psychoneuroimmunology (mind-body-spirit medicine) and is a faculty member at the Univ. of Arizona Medical School in Phoenix. 

His life's work with Native Americans has profoundly impacted his understanding about how people get sick and how they can get well. This extraordinary healing journey has been summarized in his critically acclaimed books The Dancing Healers, The Theft of the Spirit, Healing Ceremonies, and Kindling Spirit. 

Carl met Patch more than 20 years ago when both were presenters at a national healthcare conference. That connection and the resulting friendship turned out to be life-changing and started him on a path to clowning in public. He is presently Chief of Community Mental Health with the Gesundheit! Institute.
